Broncus Technologies

Broncus is a medical technology company focused on developing minimally-invasive medical devices for emphysema and other lung diseases. Our patented treatment method, Airway Bypass using Exhale® Drug-Eluting Stents, is being investigated to determine if it can provide the first minimally-invasive treatment option for homogeneous, or diffuse, emphysema, the form of the disease experienced by the majority of emphysema patients.

Airway Bypass is a catheter-based bronchoscopic procedure designed to reduce lung hyperinflation, improve pulmonary function and enhance quality of life in emphysema patients. During the procedure pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons use the Exhale emphysema product line to create and support new passages in the lungs to bypass the collapsed airways caused by emphysema, allowing trapped air to exit the lungs. As trapped air is released and lung hyperinflation is reduced, the diaphragm regains some of its normal range of motion, enabling the patient to breathe more easily. Feasibility studies have shown that subjects receiving Airway Bypass realized improvements in hyperinflation, pulmonary function and breathlessness endpoints.

Broncus currently is enrolling subjects in the EASE Trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Airway Bypass in the treatment of homogeneous emphysema.
